HOW TO MANAGE
COMPUTER EYE STRAIN

DID YOU KNOW?

*Overexposure to computer screens can worsen dry eye symptoms. Ireland is the 2nd highest in Europe for smartphone usage*

More and more people are staring at a computer screen or some kind of digital device for most of their day. This can cause a serious strain on your eyes with symptoms including eye fatigue and discomfort, dry eyes, and eye irritation. Follow these top tips to reduce the strain and improve your eye health.

Use proper lighting – Try to eliminate exterior lighting or position your computer screen so windows are to the side rather than in front or behind.

Adjust computer display settings – Balance the brightness, colour and text size to reduce eye strain and fatigue.

Take frequent breaks – Try the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Blink often – Blinking produces tears that will help to keep your eyes moist. Try to make it a habit while looking at your screen to refresh your eyes.

Adjust your workstation – Position your screen directly in front of you, about an arm’s length away. The top of your screen should be at or just below eye level.
